Geoffrey Sturgis Wood,76, of Lincoln New Hampshire passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Geoffrey was born March 30, 1942 in Newton Hospital. He was predeceased by his loving Mother Barbra L. Chadwick, His father William A. Wood, Grandmother Mary Louise Smith and Son in law Gene A Smith Jr.
His is survived by his Brother Barry & Barbara Wood of Stoneham Mass. His long time love, Kathy Haynes Cook of Lincoln. He was the loving father of Elisa A (Wood) & Todd Robinson of North Woodstock, Stacy A (Wood) & Jeffrey D. Meier of Thornton, & Ethan Wood, his beloved son of North Woodstock. His step-son Timothy & Desiray Cook of Lincoln. He was the attentive Grandfather to Laurian E (Smith) Weden, Adam T. Smith, Ashley N. Bossie, Joseph G. Bossie II, Romeo Rashawn and Trey Cook. His Great Grandchildren, Isabell M. Smith and Jaxon J. Bossie. He is also survived by several nephews. His many friends and climbing companions, too many to list.
Geoffrey was an engineer by trade. Working in that field from August of 1962 to his retirement in December of 1989. He worked on development and implementation of many various technical design projects ranging from radar, satellites, optical scanning, CT scan technology, aircraft instrumentation to submarines.
Geoffrey was an avid outdoorsman. He was a pioneer in the rock climbing world in the Franconia notch region in the 1970’s. He holds the first assents in many of the climbs throughout Northern New Hampshire. Geoff’s trips, stories and wonderful adventures are a legacy that will live on in hearts of those who loved him. The Old man of the Mountain was a special place to Geoffrey. He loved climbing, Hiking and skiing Cannon Mountain. He loved the outdoors and all that can be found in nature, it was the adventure of what’s around the corner that had him coming back day after day and year after year. We will forever be looking forward for what he would call a “lucky stiff” day!
