Roy E. Willey, Sr

Roy E. Willey Sr. (Pa) passed away on April 11, 2011 at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth. Roy was 75.

Roy was born on July 25, 1935 in Dorchester NH. He was the son of the late Edgar Collins Willey and Mildred May (Clogston) Willey.

During his youth in Dorchester, Roy was a member of the Grange and 4H. Owning his own team of logging horses, Roy’s love of the outdoors and the woods began. Logging brought Roy to the Lincoln area and to the Franconia Paper Mill. During this time, on February 18, 1953, Roy married Barbara Mae Sweeney and together they raised five children.

Roy began his 45 year career with Loon Mountain during its development stage. He began as head of maintenance and ended as recently as three weeks ago as a long time trail groomer. Roy was always proud of the fact that there was 4 generations working the “mountain” at any given time.

Roy also owned and operated Roy E. Willey & Sons Trucking Company, worked for Avery Construction and Caulder Construction.

Always with family at his side, Roy enjoyed square dancing, citizen band radios, camping, ATV riding, snow machines, hunting and fishing. His greatest pleasure was riding around his beloved White Mountain back roads with his wife watching for moose and deer.

Roy is pre-decease by his sister Wiona Willey, his brother Lawrence Willey, brother in law Earnest Rannacher, brother in law George Joyce, his daughter Betty Jean Dexter, nephew Bruce Willey and grandson Gene Smith Jr. and his beloved four legged friend, Zipper.

Roy leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 58 years, Barbara (Sweeney) Willey. Sons: Edgar “Lee” Willey and Roy E. Willey Jr. & his wife Christine. Daughters: Barbara W. Mack-Keeney and her husband Steven, Linda M. Smith and her husband Gene Smith Sr.

Grandchildren: Michael Mills, Stephen Mills, Kenneth Mack, Jennifer Conn, Joshua Keeney, Jason Keeney, Craig Keeney, Russell Smith, Kendra Smith, Theodore Willey, Angela Willey, Brandi Willey, Megan Willey and Aaron Willey.

Great Grandchildren: Matthew Mills, Elizabeth Mills, Sienna Mack, Mackenna Mack, Griffin Keeney, Barbara Elizabeth Keeney, Samantha Keeney, Nicole Keeney, Makayla Keeney, Parker Keeney, Ayden Gauthier, Isabell Gauthier, Laurian Smith, Adam Smith, Nicole Smith and Kaitlin Smith, Zachary Willey, Theordore Willey, Samuel Willey, Benjamin Willey, Kayla Willey, Brandon Willey, Madison Willey, Jadon Tessari, and Anaiah Tessari.

Great Great Granddaughter, Isabell Smith.

Sisters: Ona Rannacher and Mauriel Joyce. Sister in law: Cecilia Willey.

Nieces and Nephews: Merle Sweeney and his wife Debbie, Lawrence Jr., Amos, Lucillia, Robert, Harold, Brenda, Sandy, Bonnie, Allan, Stephen, Sharon, Walter, Dianna, Jim, Pamela and David.

Great Niece and Nephew: Merle Sweeney Jr. and Ann Marie Sweeney.

Calling hours will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Saturday, April 16 at the Fournier-Hale Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, North Woodstock NH

A celebration of Roy’s life will be held at 9:00 am, on Monday, April 18, at the summit of Loon Mountain in Lincoln. Transportation to and from the summit will be provided by Loon Mountain gondola. Rev. Skip Schwartz of Loon Area Christian Ministry will officiate. Following the ceremony, a reception and memories of Roy can be shared the in the Base Lodge.

Burial will take place at a later date in May.
