Gene A. Smith, Jr

Gene A. Smith, Jr., of Lost River Road died Friday Morning, December 17, 2010 at Speare Memorial Hospital in Plymouth, NH following a courageous 5 year battle with cancer. He was 45.

Born on August 28, 1965 in St. Johnsbury, Vermont, he was the son of Gene A. and Margaret (Hatch) Smith, Sr.

A lifelong resident of North Woodstock, he was a 1984 graduate of Lin-Wood High School.

On March 2, 1985, he married Elisa Ann Wood.

Gene was a graduate of the New England Fuel Institute where he learned oil burner maintenance and repair and then worked in the family oil and auto repair business for 10 years.

From 1990 to 2003, he worked at Loon Mountain as manager of vehicles and equipment maintenance. In 2003, he purchased NAPA Auto Parts in North Woodstock which he owned and operated for three years until the onset of his illness. He sold the business and it continues to operate today.

Following his lifelong passion for automobiles, he was an avid stock car racer and won two championships at White Mountain Motor Sports Park and at Norway Pines in Rumney. He also competed in over 100 demolition derbies.

Family and community were very important to Gene. The family shares the special number “14”. He donated countless time and energy to the Kanc Recreation Ski area, was a member of the White Mountain Snowmobile Club, and was an avid hunter.

His mother Margaret (Hatch) Roy predeceased him.

He leaves his loving wife of 25 years Elisa A. (Wood) Smith A son Adam T. Smith, a daughter Laurian E. Smith, and a granddaughter Isabell Smith all of North Woodstock, NH

His father Gene A. Smith, Sr., and his wife Linda of Lincoln, NH

A brother Russell E. Smith and his wife Cherie of Springfield, Tennesse

A sister Kendra M. Smith of Lincoln, NH

Grandmother Laurian Phettiplace of North Haverhill, NH

Father- in- Law Geoff S. Wood and his companion Kathy Cook of Lincoln, NH

Mother- in- Law Patricia Parks and her husband Norman of Centerville, Iowa

Sister- in- Law Stacy Meier of Thornton, NH

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am Tuesday, December 21 at the St. Joseph Church, 25 Church St., Lincoln, NH. Rev. John B. MacKenzie will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at the family plot at Woodstock Cemetery, Woodstock, NH. There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Fournier-Hale Funeral Home, 144 Main St., North Woodstock, NH.
