Tellervo “Della” Koutonen Nichols, 82, of Farr Hill Road, Littleton and a former longtime resident of Lost River Road, North Woodstock, NH and later Bow, NH passed away Sunday morning February 12, 2012.

Tellervo was born on March 23, 1929 in Kannus, Finland, the daughter of Walfrid and Aili (Kopsala) Koutonen.

Her family immigrated to the United States when she was 8 years old, travelling by steamship and settling in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. A 1947 graduate of Fitchburg High School, her yearbook characterized qualities that remained with her throughout her life… …..Good natured… … twinkling blue eyes… … joyful… ..very industrious… ..unassuming air and a distinguished skier . She enjoyed being outdoors in all the New Hampshire seasons and remained active tending to her bird feeders, gardening, snowshoeing, skiing and snowmobiling.

On January 5, 1949, she married Marshall Nichols in North Woodstock, NH and together they raised 4 daughters. They recently celebrated 63 years of marriage.

Tellervo was a longtime devoted member of the Church of the Messiah in North Woodstock, NH.

Besides her parents, she is pre-deceased by her brothers Erkki and Paavo Koutonen.

She is survived by her husband Marshall Nichols of Littleton, NH and her four daughters: Kathleen (John) Soubosky of Nashua, NH, Judy (Bob) Gagne of Littleton, NH, Wendy (Richard) Turner of Strafford, NH, and Liisa (Adam) Miller of Pacific Grove, California.

Five grandchildren: Matthew Trottier of New Boston, NH, Daniel Trottier of Nashua, Adam Nichols of York, South Carolina, Kelly Turner of Strafford, NH and Addison Miller of Pacific Grove, California.

Five great-grandchildren: Magan, Nolan, Eila, Sarah-Logan and Eric and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held at the family plot at Woodstock Cemetery in June. There are no calling hours.
