Roger E Libby

January 25, 1932 –  March 18, 2018 

Roger Erwin Libby, 86 of Lincoln, NH died March 18, 2018 at the Mineral Springs Nursing Home, North Conway, NH after a brief illness. 

He was born January 25, 1932 in Glencliff, N H to Almer M. and Vera (Ball) Libby of Warren, NH

Roger leaves behind his wife of 59 years, Helen (Young) Libby, 2 sons; Stephen & wife Annette Libby of Bartlett, NH and David Libby & wife Rhonda Lovejoy of Truckee, CA, a daughter; Sharon & husband David Wood of Gloucester, VA, a sister-in-law; Barbara Vitale and brother-in-law; Marshall Young, both of Lincoln, and 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Roger was predeceased by his 3 brothers; Grover, Harold and Albert Libby and 3 sisters; Blanch Vincelette, Marjorie Shortt, and Audrey Dunklee, all of Warren.
Roger attended Woodsville and Orford high schools. Then he worked for the Fred Ames Bobbin Co. and his uncle Edward Whitcher’s square stock mill before enlisting in the Navy in 1952.

He first served aboard the heavy destroyer, USS Newport News. He then transferred to its sister ship the USS Salem, the flagship of the US Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean, which he was most proud of.

Following his honorable discharge in 1956, Roger went back to work for the Whitcher family for a short time. Later that year he went to work at the Franconia Paper Corp. in Lincoln where he was employed as a fireman for the stationary boilers and later performed machine maintenance until the mill shut down in 1970
He worked as a special police officer for Town of Lincoln from 1970 to 1976. Roger finished his employment years at Burndy in the maintenance dept. from 1975 until he retired in 1996.

He was a communicant of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lincoln.

Calling hours will be held from 11am to 1pm Saturday, March 24 at Fournier-Hale Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, North
Woodstock, NH with a short memorial service  to immediately follow.  A private burial will take place in the spring.
