Joan Alma Hughes, resident of Lincoln, NH at rest May 6, 2011 following a courageous 3 year battle with ovarian cancer. Joan passed away peacefully with her family at her side.
Born on Sept 26, 1931, Joan was raised in Stamford, Connecticut. She was the wife of the late Robert Hughes (1931-1982). Joan and Bob moved to Lincoln, NH in 1977 to fulfill their dream of running their own business. Together, they owned and ran the White Mountain Motel until Bob’s death after which Joan continued for several years until she passed the business to her son.
Joan loved spending time with her family and friends, was devoted to the Town of Lincoln where she served on local committees and volunteered her services. She was an avid reader, seamstress, and quilter. She loved living beside the Pemi River in the beautiful White Mountains. Joan touched the lives of many people with her gentleness, her smile, her kindness, and she maintained her trademark courage and strength all the way to the end.
Joan will forever be remembered by her devoted children Barbara (Deceased), Timothy, Robert, and Thomas, and caring in-laws Deborah and Gail. She was the beloved Grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many other friends and family who were blessed to know her.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 11:30 am Monday, May 9 At Fournier-Hale Funeral Home, 144 Main St, North Woodstock, NH.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 10:00am until 11:30 am at the funeral home prior to the service.
