Mary E. Govoni, a longtime resident of Church Street, Lincoln died Tuesday evening, (August 24, 2010) at Grafton County Nursing Home in Haverhill, NH where she had resided for the past 6 months. She was 95. Born on May 18, 1915 in Wilmington, Vermont, she was the daughter of Erminio G. and Emma (DePratti) Mosco. Mary grew up in Athol, MA and attended Athol Public Schools. In 1938, she moved to Lincoln, NH where she met Winston Govoni. On June 1, 1940 they were united in marriage in Athol, Mass. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage until his passing in 2004. Over the years, Mary was employed at various businesses in the area, her most recent positions were at Loon Mt. and Clark’s Trading Post. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Lincoln and served as Regent for the Catholic Daughters of Isabella. Her notable interest included sewing, wood carving, and her love of history which inspired her to travel the world. Mary was a remarkable cook. Known for her signature dish Chicken Cacciatore, she was awarded The Union Leader’s “Cook of the Month”, more than once!! Her greatest joy was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have been enriched by her love and wisdom. She leaves her children: Chiara Govoni of Lincoln, John Govoni of Plymouth, and Peter Govoni and his wife Carol of Lincoln.
Her grandchildren: Clark Govoni of Bartlett, NH, Katrina Mack of Lincoln, NH, Aaron Govoni of Caimbridge MA, and Lauren Govoni of Quincy, MA. Four Great-Grandchildren Sister-in-law Clara Mosco of Athol, Mass Several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she is pre-deceased by two brothers John Mosco of Lincoln and Robert Mosco of Athol, Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Saturday, August 28, 2010 at St. Joseph Church in Lincoln, NH. The Very Rev. Roger Bilideau will officiate. There are no calling hours. The Rite of Committal will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln.
