Barbara A. Clark

Lincoln-Barbara Avery Clark of Murray Drive, Lincoln, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017, at home surrounded by her family.  She was 88 years of age.

Born on May 12, 1929 in North Woodstock, NH, she was the daughter of Shirley “Shirdy” and Emily B. (Andrews) Avery.  Barbara was a lifelong resident of the Lincoln-North Woodstock area and also resided for a time with her family in Chichester, NH.  She graduated from Woodstock High School in 1947 as the valedictorian, and attended Keene Teachers College.  On October 25, 1952, she married W. Murray Clark of Lincoln at the Church of the Messiah in North Woodstock, where she was a communicant. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage until Murray’s passing on January 7, 2010.

For 57 years Barbara worked alongside her family at Clark’s Trading Post, the family business. While residing in Chichester, she enjoyed volunteering at the NH State Hospital in Concord. As an ECW (Episcopal Church Women) member, she delighted in working at the Silver Tea-later known as the Christmas Church Sale. Barbara welcomed family and friends to her home with a warm smile, welcome arms, and homemade meals complete with her delicious apple pie. She often attended auctions and loved the thrill of the hunt for souvenir china, old post cards, vintage toys, games and antiques. Barbara had a great love for all animals including her pets: Vixen the fox, Moxie the bear, Misty the Sheltie, and countless cats and dogs.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister, Joyce A. Clark and her brother, Dalton B. Avery.

Family members include her four children: Nola C. Grant, her husband Callum, their sons Rory and Iain Grant, and daughter Bridie (Grant) Preston along with her son Arthur Preston; Maureen S. Clark and her husband Vladimir Akhlatkin; Murray A. Clark and his wife Sylvia and children Grant, Liam, Willa, and Briar; Andrew A. Clark and his children Mason and Emma.  She is also survived by sisters Elizabeth A. Massari of Wilmington, NC and Carkie R. Bickford of Burlington, VT, brother Tony Avery of Wallingford, CT and dozens of nieces and nephews located all over the country.

Services will be private.  Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Lincoln, NH.
