U.S. Veteran

Lincoln, NH Roger W. Thompson, 90, of Daniel Webster Highway died Monday, August 15, 2011 at Grafton County Home in Haverhill, NH following a long illness. Born on January 31, 1921 in North Woodstock, NH, he was the son of Milledge and Mary (Miller) Thompson. He attended school in Pike and Haverhill, NH. On February 12, 1942, he married Margaret Landry of Lincoln, NH. During WW II, he served in the US Army from 1943-1946. He served 9 months in the Pacific Theatre. He was employed for 25 years as Safety Inspector at the Franconia Paper Company in Lincoln. After the mill closed, he became employed with Audley Construction for four years, and then was employed as a custodian at Lin-Wood High School. He retired as a custodian at Town of Woodstock Town Hall. He was a communicant of St. Joseph Church in Lincoln and was a 4th Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus. In earlier years, he served in the Civil Defense Force. Along with the Franconia Paper Company, he was instrumental in the formation of the first ambulance service in the Lincoln-Woodstock area. He also worked part- time as an officer with the Lincoln Police Department. Besides his parents, he is pre-deceased by a son Lee Joseph Thompson who died Sept 12, 2009 and five brothers.He leaves his loving wife of 69 years Margaret M. ThompsonTwo sons: David Thompson of Lincoln & Peter Thompson of North WoodstockFive daughters: Anne Fusco of N. Kingstown, RI, Mary Albrecht and Helen Jones both of North Woodstock, Elizabeth Rossi of Campton, and Fay Houde of Thornton. Three sisters Betty Conrad of Pike, NH, Ruth Labin of Pennsylvania, and Rena Landry of Virginia.Several Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am Friday, August 19 at St. Joseph Church in Lincoln, NH. Rev. David Kneeland will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln. Calling hours will be held from 6-8pm Thursday, August 18 at Fournier-Hale Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, North Woodstock, NH.
